Mary Cassatt came to France in the mid 1870's she was already a good painter but when she saw the Impressionist she stepped up her game.

Cincinnati  Museum of Art has this beautiful example of Mary's work.

We all want to hold or be held, let those arms surround us. Motherly love.

This is a touching painting and as always paint what we know. Writers write. painters paint. dancers dance, and bloggers...well you know.

Try to sketch these paintings to get a feel for the composition of great paintings.

So keep those brushes wet and your pencil sharp.

This is one of the most moving painting ever! The Shepard and his flock, coming home at the end of the day. The faithful dog guarding and watching.

Some of you know I am in Chemo right now and can use your prayers but some of my fellow patients need it more than me! I would love to bring the art world to them so... What about coloring book for adults and crayons?

I would like you if you can to help me raise 100 sets of books and crayon or colored pencils.

I will be contacting some of my old art supplier's and sign company's, to see if they can help as well.

I am able to do watercolors for the 6 hours we are there in the Hospital. SO.... what can you do?
Email me and lets talk!!! I have the distribution and you have the good taste to follow me.
Keep your coloring books dry and your crayons sharp.

Its been a Mess Here

Hi everyone! This is Jon from JonLikesToDraw.com - The painting that appears in this post is based on the principles that Bud has been blogging about all through 2016. You see, Bud is my dad; and I've been a student of that man for nearly 44 years! As dad always said, "I taught you everything you know, but not everything I know!" If you like this painting, thank Bud!

Dad is having some issues with his Internet Service Provider and hasn't been able to post as regularly as he would like. Apparently, Century Link is supposed to come out and fix his issues today... Internet issues, that is! :)

Regardless, dad asked me to post this for him so that you faithful and loyal readers of Uncle Bud's Art Colony wouldn't feel neglected and sad that new posts haven't been appearing lately. As he has said before... Keep Your Brushes Wet!!

Gus Courbet a master of the new style of painting. With the revelation of "outdoor painting" or plein air the Impressionist grabbed the new artist and awoke a whole new way to paint.

Until this time 1870 - 1880's most painters may do a small sketch outdoors but not a finished  painting there.

This is one of the CMA (Cincy Art Museum) great paintings and as an artist I would aspire to this style and finished quality!

Look at the horizon the pink and orange, the clouds, and the purple the far mountain.

Well keep those brushes wet and check out the great painting around us!!!!

Monet was in his stride at this point. Selling and painting, but his personal life was still up in the air, so he went to this spot to be inspired.

Well I would say he was. This is a very typical impressionist painting.  He started with the light and worked down into the dark. if you look closely you'll see the light brush strokes. Dabs and touches.

This lovely painting is hanging in the Cincinnati Museum of art.  We toured and saw so many of the great European  masters.

Monet has five to 7 layers of depth in the picture. It also has a feeling of atmosphere.

So much information so little space, well just look and like it!

Lets paint a purple painting today

Belle Isle - Monet

As advertised yesterday a couple of my boys and I went to CAM (Cincy Art Museum) and I think it was a big Wow for all of us, myself included. We toured the halls of one the finest Museums in Ohio with some very old art and the special exhibit of Vincent Van Gogh and company.

By the way it was Excellent!

We saw Monet, Renoir, and Mary Cassatt and many more!!!! Picasso, Courbet, Remington, and the list goes on.

I would venture to say that hundreds if not Thousands saw this fine exhibit in the time they displayed it.
It was not just Van Gogh, but Barbizon painters as well showing the progression of painting during that time frame. Into Impressionist, to Post-impression to Expressionism.

Then... and then, Dan and Jon took me to Camp Washington to eat  Coneys and chilly yum! But that was not all, we stopped by Cabella's  to look at the "free zoo" as my granddaughters  call it.

What a great day I know we will have to go back and spend some more time there at the Museum.
I did some sketching and took lots of pictures.

By the way you have until Jan. 8th if you are in the area to see this great display of art.
