Art in History and what it Represents

In the beginning man made art. Some say to represent his kill for food others say it was to draw the spirit of the animals into the hunt.
Either way someone began to draw.

Many years later man drew to tell stories of his or her religion for many years. Then it was the custom to decorate Churches to tell the story of the Gospels and life and times of saints and the Christ.

In other cultures Art was used as decoration for peoples homes as well as castles and palaces.

Colors also played an important part in art history for example because it was expensive to make purple it became a royal color. Or the color of King and Queens. We began to assign meaning to colors i.e. "I am Blue." became an expression, and many other sayings and ideas.

As the Dark ages fell away and people began to read. (thanks to the printing press) Art took another turn and we made art for the sake of art. But it must "say something." The French took this to the next level with their Solon and halls of "The Ministry of Art" a very formal way art was viewed and displayed.

Then in the 1870's the walls of that institution began to crumble with the advent of the Impressionist and their desire to paint what they saw and "catch the light."

Ah so much to say, I'll stop for now but enjoy your paintings and look to the sky and see if you can see the light like an artist.  Well keep your brushes wet!
