The Whole Shebang! Andersonville Prison

The phrase "Shebang" came from the Civil War prison shelters. They were dug outs with a canvas tarp over the hole. This was home to 10,000 soldiers from the Union Army.

This place is very rare and a place where we honor our POW's from all wars. I took this pix to paint some day I just haven't brought myself to it yet.

Also the term or phrase, " deadline" was a rope about 3 feet from the wall of the prison, if you crossed it the guard shot you. You crossed the deadline.

This National Park is a wonder in its width and area. The various states have put up monuments to our soldiers. The only war criminal to be hung during the post-war era was Capt. Wirtz the commander of the prison.

Art and the civil war, my two passions. Many drawings and painting were painted during this time for newspapers and other remembrances.

So keep your pencil sharp and your brushes wet! Watch the whole shebang! And don't cross the deadline.
