To show the transparent or "glass like" look you need to paint in glazes with water if your using acrylics, if its oil use more medium like turpentine or thinner.
This vase is in our bathroom and we use it for an accent. The colors here are the neutral with the purples and golds add to that the greens and browns for more flavor.
I think every artist wants to or has tried to paint the water and glass or windows to make us the viewer look at their skill in painting. Some times it is showing off and other times it is just great skill!
Well as always lets keep our brushes wet and more forward to paint glass.
