The Big Darby Creek Bridge

In the spring I like to get some pictures of subjects to paint. There is about 4 covered bridges near our home and it is a great subject for artist to paint.  This was a super spring day not to hot and not to cool. Some people call it a "Goldie Locks Day," just right.

This bridge was rebuilt a few years ago and modernized for large trucks and other traffic. Some of these old babies can not stand heavy traffic.
Okay the answer to the question why did they cover these bridges?
Was it for shelter during heavy rain storms? Was it to give lovers a chance to "spark" (kiss) ?
No to all, it was to protect the wooden floors in the bridge. So many of these were built during the horse and buggy days.

When I take pictures of subjects I try to find the best angle the best light or the best bit if interest in the painting. More pictures and more angles the more chances I can find something to paint. Surprisingly you find unusual items in your compositions and you can bring them into the project.
The only thing better would be to actually sit down with canvas and easel and paint it.

Well kids and let get our brushes wet! Not the floor of the bridge.
