Matisse in Columbus

Matisse want to represent color and shape and the more he was into painting and life he did more shapes. Like his friend Picasso they wanted to learn to be more child like.  Each painting became more and more simple.

I find myself painting more and more "adult like" when maybe I should do more simple paintings, One thing that does not change is the form and composition, or the design of good taste. Pick a point of view and lead with it. Do not change your vanishing point or your sun "light" in many early pictures people have two or three light sources and if you just pick one the picture is so much better. I know if it is an indoor painting then yes you may have a variety of light but generally one light source is best.  This painting is one with light from the right and it works best.

Matisse in later life build a chapel for his friend the nun in Provence, France and on the wall he did the stations of the cross and they are line drawings in representative form to suggest the image. In true artistic circles I believe it is almost like a cave drawing style of days gone by. Just the outline showing what the artist intended.

Well Kids let dip in and see if we can get simple and keep our brushes wet.
