Family can be everything! If you love them and find out how to let them fly.

When your need to have a favor from your family remember you may need to have already given one out.

This is a painting I did for Grandson Jake and he sent it everywhere on this little old blog ...thanks!

Anyway this sunset ...or sunrise as you may see it. This was a fun painting. Jake said this is where his favorite mushroom grew.

Sometimes you just mess around with stuff. Bored with the day so I took a swipe at the boy in the pond back in '87.

I used pastel, something I am not good with yet. I sketched one of the guys just to see what would happen.
This is it. Not the best but fun to do.

You may recognize your self but I am not going to name you.I hope this brings back a memory. Fun times.

Any way swim on and paint up a storm.

Keep your pastels soft and brushes wet!

Okay how many of us feel this way when we look in the mirror? Not like a woman, but all mixed up. Picasso was the master in mixing parts up, better than Frankenstein.

I have never liked Picasso I did not understand his point of view, until I saw an exhibition of his work. At the age of 14 he was a master artist. He Painted realistic but began to change. Then he when to Paris painting every style he could.

Finally he found his style, it was this parts and design of division. A Cubist style came from this also.

So Just because you don't like it does not mean it "ain't" art. Is this freaky? Yup! So check out other styles and kinds of art you may like it.

So as I always say...Keep your brushes wet and your pencils sharp.

Most of us see white fluffy "Simpsons" clouds or cartoon clouds. Some of you have no idea that there is a sky.

But ole' Vincent saw action, constant movement in the earth, trees swaying, and grasses dancing. Mountains alive with color and action. This was done in 1889 and Vincent was sick mentally he couldn't get together. Yet the paintings he did in this state are amazing!

I was amazed the first time I saw them. You know what? I still am! Whether in a book or in person.

The paint is so thick, the colors so bold, and the subject so alive.

Look out for any time you can go see an exhibition of Van Gogh.

Keep your clouds alive and your brushes wet.

As one of many in the 1870's Manet wanted to be recognized as a great painter. He pushed the Impressionist into many Solon exhibits and bullied them to show work no one understood, but he was not considered a part of their group.

This painting is so bold and stark like his other paintings. Some are also in your face. Some are very shocking. They have unaccustomed nudity, rude suggestions, and just plane in your face 1800's!

But ... he moved painting along his work with the Impressionist and complements on certain painters was instrumental in their rise in the art world.

Funny about Manet he said, "I don't care to be recognized." But he could not wait to get a medal from the Solon, and did before his death.

I hope to bring a few more bits of info to you as this blog goes on.

Did you ever notice in nature that so many things are leaning one way or another?

Take this mountain ( as if you could) but really notice how the indents slope to the left. The lay of the land or the slopes are creating valleys to the left side.

The reason I bring it up is in art it is more interesting to slope or lean your main subject it creates in your minds eye to find the reason or the why. Where is this thing going if it is a tree or a flower stem, what ever it might be.

The as a good artist I lean the other subjects the smalls the little things to the other side creating a different feel.

Not ever subject in your paintings lean that would be dumb but flowers trees and other subject can and do lean.

Dip in kids and make it lean, and get your brushes wet.

These flowers were sent to us and I just could not miss the chance to paint them. With watercolor you paint light to dark. Everything else you paint dark first then lights.

I know this is not a perfect picture but for me it was great practice. sometimes I learn more in practice than I do in a finished "masterpiece".

Hopefully you can practice a little bit this week. I saw a picture of the great artist Matisse who was in his advanced age of 80 with cancer, drawing on the wall. He had a large stick with a piece of chalk on the end as he drew on the wall. I suppose we all could work like that if we wanted to.
