You may be surprised what is good and what is not. Some parts of the frame of your picture is just not a composition builder whereas other parts make a great picture.
You can make one of these cardboard frame view finders or you can hold up your hands a do the old box with the first finger and thumb with both hands.
The more you paint the more you find the frame.

I think tomorrow I will start Chemo. We need to keep fighting everyday we are alive. But we get caught up in our bills, house repairs, and family problems we forget to live.
For me sketching and drawing is part of that living life deal. Let it go free.

Find the right blue and white and pinks of clouds, then build your sky. Now get the sandy ground and bank of dirt with the bushes. Ah don't forget the back ground mountains.
Now we can put in the reflections of the middle ground in the river. Got all that?
Yes we could take a picture but a painting is so much more.

I had very narrow thinking. In some cases I still have a little bit of that. I know I am a person of habits. We all are to some extent.
Habits and closed thinking is alright for personal habits. But for business and art and computers not so much.

Last fall I drew this little guy he has a girl friend and they are together all the time. Except this time when was drawing him. Finding the right composition for bird pictures is always a challenge.

In house painting in a room you will almost always see a white ceiling. If you want a room to look larger paint the walls white or a form of the "light" or bright color cousin of white.

Monet painted this row of mountains and olive trees letting the sky come thru very lightly. He added his daughters which I have left out in my copy.
I believe that by adding people it adds a new dimension to the painting.

Well today and tomorrow it will be in the -25 degrees below 0. That is with the wind chill.

Blast out a few canvases with different colors for your stock paintings so you are ready to go. By blending gesso and blues and browns to make a gray or blue / brown gray that way we can paint almost anything later on.

I enjoy the look of the real sky and landscape. Finding the right tone and blending it to make a quality picture. Using the photo of places a I have been is a thrill as well.
The idea of plain air painting also is a great boost to my art. I have done that several times and each time I see and learn something new.

Monet and the impressionist used the light and dark trick to light the world. Also they allowed the painting to come together in our eyes or mind.
By knowing and planning out just a little bit of your painting ahead of time you can point out the way we see your painting.
Something I don't say much about is the way your brush strokes end up on the canvas when hung in a home or gallery. If your brush strokes are not horizontal the light on the sky or subject may be unsettling.
