Now we come to the last part of the circle those colors are all Purple and Violet. These colors are both warm and cool depending on the red added to the base color or the Blue added.

Now the side colors meaning a color with a primary color and a secondary color are the tertiary color, for example Blue with Violet gives us "Blue Violet".

The other thing about this color scheme is we can now do Monochromatic or one color in a tint, tone, or shade.

Color is described by the Value or Hue and its intensity. Hue is the name of the color i.e. red, blue, orange, or green. Tint is a color plus white.Value is the color relative to the light or darkness of the color.

So much more to come up in the next few days stay with us.

More Color, Purple and Violet

Now for the cool colors blues, violet blue green, and green.  These colors recede making things look farther away.

Fact: Blue is one of the most popular colors in the world. Men choose blue 48% of the time and women pick it 39% according to some surveys.

Green is the opposite of red and a complementary color to it. If you want to darken red use green, or vice versa, these two colors play back and forth for dominance.

As we go into the other part of this color theory we will see some amazing things coming up.  I will talk about the black and gray scale. as well as some other neat stuff.

Cool Blue and Green

As color moves thru the light spectrum we find that red is the longest wave.  As we add yellow to that color we get red-orange to yellow-orange with orange in the middle as a secondary color.

Orange is the opposite of Blue and  is a complementary color.  Now this is where the colors become so interesting.  Impressionist saw they could put these colors side by side and gain intensity in their paintings.

In medieval times the dye makers of the great castle tapestries that hang in most of the palaces realized that they could use color to make a strong statement in the designs they did. They used complementary colors and then added black.

Warm colors advance, cool colors receding. Enjoy, more to follow.

Warm Secondary Colors

Many of you know what this is. I have no idea who came up with this but it has helped thousands of artist know color and how it works and how to blend it.

Color is made up from the light ( I'm not going heavy here) there are three Primary colors Red, Blue, and Yellow.

Over the next few days I will explain a few ideas and things I learned over the years in art about color.

I will talk about tone and value and hue also how color makes things closer or farther away. And I will only scratch the surface of color so I hope you'll hang around and check it out.

Primary Colors

I have seen this house and garage out my back door for years and years. So one day I set down with a pencil and drew the shadows on the garage and the trees. Then the House came into focus.  Light blue for the shadows on the side.

With watercolor I work from light to dark. I then put on a wash of color to represent the sun light.

The sky I used a wet wash brush and then very lightly added cobalt blue and ultramarine very wet and diluted.

This farm was in our family for years we had lots of fun here. Good Memories.

Mom and Dad's Farm House

The American native Indians and many other peoples through out the world used this symbol to represent many things in their culture.

I just read a book about the Choctaw and how this played into their rituals.

Artistically it was cool to do because I could do an eye as real as possible and stylize the rest of the painting.

Watercolor is so good to do the eye color of the iris and pupil.

This is totally out of my normal range of paintings but here again it was fun!

Hand and Eye Coordination

Watercolor and pictures are limited only by your imagination. If you can see it you can draw or paint it. Just like your life.

This was a fun one to do, carrots on their sides or standing up!

You can paint the whole garden if you want. Just go the the store or better yet go out side and pull from your own garden.

Anyway here they are and they are not just orange.

Follow the bunch!
