Sometimes we don't understand people. Picasso  was one I didn't understand. I did not like him. Not a little bit. At all. Then I saw his very early works. Amazing, and good.

Judging an artist and his work is easy if you don't have all the facts. So many people don't understand art or artist for that matter. I do know I  was not a fan of cubism, blockism, or the abstract.

This picture is "Woman in the Mirror." Very colorful and weird in my view. So do I understand it. Well sort of.

Keep your brushes wet and your mind open.

Now I understand

I used to to be really bad at this. I would start and not finish a project or I would get every thing ready and put it off. Why do we do that?

Mix it up if you have trouble finishing things do a little every day on your projects. The most successful people almost never postpone things. Jump on it and finish and then if you see something that is not right then you can change it. But Do Something.

I noticed for the longest time I would go full blast and finish something just to get it done. Like it or not. See not everything you do is a masterpiece. Sorry.

Keep your brushes wet!

The "F" word - Finish

Dave passed away yesterday after a long sickness. We were pals. I will miss him more than I can say.

Rest easy old friend.

Keep your brushes wet and your friends close.

Good Bye Dave

One of the things that make us human and different from animals is art. But it is also compassion, and memory, and love.

My best friend is very sick and I fear he may die. We have had so much fun together over the years. Our kids did stuff together and we laughed and played games.

He always liked elephants because they were so majestic and were compassionate.

Lets be like the elephant and remember the good things like our friends.

Keep your  friends close and your brushes wet.

I Remember that!

"My pallet is Lead White, Cadmium Yellow, Vermillion,  Madder, Cobalt Blue, Chrome Green, That's All."
Monet had refined his pallet to the colors he saw in the area. No more blacks or other dark colors that could not be made with blues.

After years of painting he refined the pallet to his best and most acceptable color choice. He painted the air.  The air consisted of the choice I stated above. Landscapes and other projects he painted were always with the atmosphere in mind.

He would plan and layout his paintings with a very critical eye. The compositions were flawless. He said I will not teach anyone how to paint.  He knew you needed to learn on your  own. We can look back and discover how he did his projects, and that will teach us. A most amazing man and painter. When he died the undertaker put the customary black cloth on his casket, but friends said, "No black for Monet!" They put a flowered cloth on his casket and there it remained until the burial.

Keep refining and keep your brushes wet.

My God bless you, oh yes you're shoe is untied. Stop at the bank and pay the rent! All of these thing are due today. Tonight we may get some snow! Really? Is that an April fools joke?

Time for winter to go! Lets get out and enjoy our gardens and yards, cookout, and paint. Lets go barefoot. Most of all set down to paint or draw OUTSIDE!

Painting can smooth out the rough places, it can help you reflect on the things you want to draw deeper into your life. Drawing for me is a way to see beyond troubles and pain.

For a person that is a little scattered like myself, drawing and painting  brings some order to my life. I know I need that and maybe even a little bit more than some. "Put your darkest darks beside your lightest light."

Keep your brushes wet and your snow shovel close. Happy Easter!

Easter, April Fool's, and the rents due!
