The other day I talked about the door our niece got for us through AMS. (America Cancer Society )
This side of the door has a message of hope on it. I wish you could see down town when all of the doors are on display. All of the streets of Bellefontaine are covered with Ideas about a fight cancer message or a message of hope, and fighting back.

The artist that painted this door hit it just right the Van Gogh side and this tree with its roots. It is so interesting. The message of community and wellness is important for us all.

Some art is a story. Other pieces of art is just something to look at. Then there is art to Inspire.

So when one door closes another door opens.

Keep your brushes wet and your doors open.

I sometimes think I add too much detail. I like the colors, the sky, and the composition but not all the detail in the sky. I realize less is more in many cases.

It takes us distance and time to see what we have made. These are two ingredients of humor as well. Leonardo Da Vinci said a painting is never done it is just abandoned. He kept the Mona Lisa with him his whole life after he started it almost 15 years.

I like this motif the circle and the vertical of the trees. It lends itself to many other designs.

Well gang let keep our brushes wet and reflect on the deep wood.

This has three undercoats. It is hard board, and the first coat was a hoge poge of color. I used reds and blues and purple but no medium.

The second coat was almost all medium with purples and little else, oh a touch of white, but not much more. Then I waited for it all to dry. To get the desired look I wanted a dark center. It should trail to the right almost a curve.

This going to have a rose in the center and dark foliage behind that to bring out the flower.

I sometimes have as much fun painting these backgrounds as I do painting the whole pictures.

When we took the baton camp kids to the Marmon Valley Farm to ride horses I saw this peacock. He was rather quiet. So in my best peacock voice I chirped at him and he raised his head so I could draw him.

Did I get the exact look of a peacock? Well I did get the essence of Mr. Pea. He was fun to paint/draw. Just a quick sketch for later. I did paint him at home in the studio.

I found the quick sketch is a neat way to pick up animals I wouldn't have painted or drawn before. I still want to go the Zoo and draw a few animals yet unseen.

If we are ABS - Always be Sketching we will get something fantastic. Be ready to draw or if your a camera person you know be ready!

My friend brought this sign over and asked if I could repaint it. Of course I could. But I thought how cool, you could route this board out and glue letters inside it for your town, or lake, or even your house.

Sanding the inside down and glue your lettering and little shapes. Add a special shape, like this boat or an animal. (horse, cow, or dog etc.)

Have some fun with this. I have done three or four for this friend. Now for purest like son Jon and myself. The "N" in Indian is upside down and it drives us crazy.

So keep your "N"s" right side up and your brushes wet!

Monty Python always said the above line yet it was almost ironic. I guess This is not different at all. It is just a little bit odd.

The usual light house is a rocky island and a overseer's home, with the tower of the true light house. But the almost silhouette of trees and the tower make it different.

This is a hardboard panel and double coated with gesso and then colored with blue and I added the "water" with waves.

It was an idea that came the more I worked on it.

Thank you Angie! My Niece bought a door from the America Cancer Society. Our county has a program that whereby an individual can buy a door, then decorate or paint it. Once it is painted (both sides) it is displayed on the streets of town. Then sold at auction. All the money is then given to the local ACS.

My lovely family, Kathy and the boys, all got together and had family and friends stop at the local park and join us for a surprise party on ole' Bud. The news of my cancer moving towards remission was the reason for celebration.

When I saw the door I was shocked because I knew the process. Thanks again. But the fact someone painted the Starry Night well it was to good.
