Jon said, " All of it is in the cloud."
I said, "What?"
"Yes, pictures and everything."

Okay the here is a cloud lets get it out.

This cloud is over Florida a couple of years ago. I think it is called a cumulus cloud. But would you spend two years at the beginning of the naming of these various clouds?
John Constable did just that in 1850's with a scientist just then naming the clouds.

Constable painted the English countryside he is credited with the first of many that painted outside (plein air) in oils. Most artist were using watercolors doing quick little sketches. Then going back to the studio to finish the painting. Constable did too but his first oil painting truly catches the scene.

When Picasso died he left behind 70,000 paintings. Thousands of pottery and sculptures in 11 different houses. All to go to his heirs including 5 children and at least 2 ex-wives and 3 or so mistresses.

He was not a nice guy to most people. I think he was obsessed with his painting and creating to the point he didn't understand other peoples feelings.
Genius or crazy person? I don't know but he did some cool art and moved art in to the 20th century. He developed Cubism with another artist. He held a mirror up to the Nazi's during WWII.

Some years after his death one of his paintings sold for 93 million dollars.

As a painter I would like to sell a painting for half that much. I would take a day off!

In the 1400's Leonardo Da Vinci was looking off in the distant hills. It was then he noticed that the far away hills were a hazy blue or purple. This was very revolutionary thinking for the time because all painting was so flat.

The Renascence was a time of discovery. Painting, science, and church all changed as people began to come out of the dark ages.
Painters like Leonardo and Michelangelo saw the human body different.

They saw the natural world different around them. We have moved forward in the arts over the years until today people paint weird things just to be painting I think.

Keep it hazy and your brushes wet.

The last Monday in May is Memorial Day. It came about because of the American Civil War, President Lincoln gave a 2 minute speech at Gettysburg, Pa., It is a time for us to remember those who gave all for our freedom.

Every vet has given something, some gave all. We all can give back to our community and help another person. So many time we get tied up in our own family problems or even just our self. Look out beyond yourself to touch others.

If your paintings can help someone or your drawings can touch someone do it. I have had the pleasure to help a friend with my drawings. It makes you feel great.

Sometimes you see a picture of your grand children and you just gotta paint it. That was the way with this painting.

In the Cincinnati Museum of art I saw a painting of the old man herding the sheep and just had to paint it. Just like Monet's Japan bridge, or his field of lavender, and the waterlily's. These are things I want to try to paint.

Van Gogh always painted Millet's paintings, he loved the workers in the field. For so many reasons we love to paint like our hero's and we can learn so much.

I don't know if learning is more important or the act of painting but I know I can learn and lose time. It helps me relax and forget my problems for a minute.

So keep your brushes wet and your pictures in color.

I just gotta do it.

A light house was made for stormy days and nights. To keep us from the rock and shoals. This is Betsie Point on Lake Michigan. The iron ore and car transports of the big ships traveling back and forth on the lake. They needed the light houses.

Today GPS has made all of the light houses obsolete and that is just sad. What will we paint? I know some community's are saving the lighthouses. Moving them or restoring them.

There are so many in the Great Lakes region as well as the coast of the United States. Pick one out and paint it or draw it you will learn so much. Add a stormy sky or a calm night sky. Have some fum with it. Pick out a calendar with lighthouses ( careful with copy-write laws!) sketch it out then add your own details.

Oh yes a big shout out to my granddaughter she graduated last night! So proud. Be a lighthouse to your family sis! Love ya!

Light house in the storm

Monet and many other artist have seen the water with its reflections. But something they also saw was the sky in the water. The upside down.

If you can't go to Paris to see Monet's waterlily's, as they circle the building they built for it, look at the water or lake or pond near you and notice the sky living in the water.

He saw how the sky and sun rose and set in the waters reflection. And it was a time when he was near blindness.

Other artist have similar pieces that define them. Picasso and Renoir, Degas and Van Gogh as well as Pollock. All of these artist have one painting that defines them. I believe as an artist we have to keep looking for our masterpiece.
