If you can get it down on paper, or in food service, or sewing you stimulate your creative energy.

Most of us think if I can paint the Mona Lisa then I am creative but that is not so. Anything you do outside of your head is your creative touch.

I find the more you see and do you get better at it. I would think every profession has that key. Doing equals learning and as we repeat the success the better it turns out. I have heard of the thirty day challenge to draw or paint something every day for the month. I paint or draw like that and that's fun.

Let's draw, paint, and cook, and keep our brushes wet!

Yesterday morning I sat out on the porch and began to draw the trees on the edge of the property. The sketch pad was filling up with several drawings. I looked to the right of a group of trees I had just drawn and saw this dead branch. It had interest, and drama. Quickly I laid this out.

Rather than draw all the dark or light behind the tree I just did the darks as they appeared in front of the limbs. Very unintentionally it created this arc. I worked on the limbs and trunk of the tree. I shaded the dark side and left the right side as a highlight.

The fun of this drawing is seeing how it comes together. Tapping and using cross hatching for the leaves.

By drawing from nature I always learn some thing. I surprise myself. If you can try it go out and paint or draw.

Keep your brushes wet and draw on.

As early as I can remember I have heard Morning doves coo in the morning and evening. We have a pair living out on the south end of the property.

As I looked out the window Tuesday last I saw this dove on the lid of my BBQ cooker. Quickly I began to draw, and this is what resulted.

I talked about Leonardo Da Vinci and his innovations, but the truth is he had an eye for things. He studied birds to the point of had it been a few hundred years later he could have been the inventor of flight. He saw how their wings worked and how the air slipped over the wings.

He drew hundreds of different types of birds. Big to little the style of tails, wings, and feathers.

Me on the other hand not so much. I do quick sketching and color. Then I move on to the next thing.

Keep some bird seed, and get your brushes wet.

Well so much to tell today. First this a row of trees on the edge of the property. I sat and used my Winsor & Newton pens to draw this scene catching the sunlight as in impressionism.

Second my son got me a phone it is an I-phone with a great camera. As you can see with this picture I took .

Third is the surprise of reading about an artistic hero only to find out the person is human. The one great all time painter, the man with two of the worlds greatest paintings ever, Leonardo Da Vinci.

Da Vinci is know to have drawn plans for a helicopter, a tank, a repeating machine gun, gears, giant cross bows and more. And now I find out he was gay, left handed and a vegetarian. A vegetarian. What is this world coming to? The man was 500 years ahead of everyone else.

Well kids keep eating your vegetables and keep your brushes wet.

Every painting has a beginning. In acrylic you start with the under painting. The far trees, the shadows on the land, and the lights on the houses.

This a painting of a drawing of Dad's farm. I live up on the north end of the far field. I've done the base of this painting to get the lay of the land and scrub in some of the darks in the trees.

I look down at this scene daily. I remember so many great memories from this place. Hunting trips, fishing trips, and sledding with the kids. Of course Dad and Mom at Christmas, snowy days, as well as hot summer days. Swimming in the pond.

The drawing was simple but the painting is a little harder to do.

So Keep your brushes wet and swim on.

I took my colored pencils and scrubbed several shades to make a background. Tom Lynch the great watercolorist did this idea using several wet on wet colors then with a dark color added the house and other effects.

This piece is done with pencil and felt pen. I did this on grey paper. If you haven't drawn on the colored papers try it, grey and brown. I like the gray best.

I like the the feel of paper or canvas but Jon has a digital pad and "pen" and he is doing some great art with it.

Well try everything. Keep your pencils sharp and your brushes wet.

I have been watching the TV show by National Geographic "Genius". This season they focused on Picasso... the lover and artist.

I saw so many things he has done and didn't understand the concept. So if you want to learn you try to do his style. This is very elementary in fact you can see both eyes almost on the same plane.

I have been messing with it since I painted it. The experiment is the fun of this project.

I signed it Bud-casso Is it right no, but it is an homage to him. The guy I didn't like but came to learn about.

Make your faces crazy and keep your brushes wet.
