Every artist that has picked up a brush or knife or cracked a tube of paint has tried to paint a sunflower.

This flower has just started to bloom I would imagine it is about mid August. By the end of the summer these beauts would feed the bees and bugs. Later people would figure out how to dry the seed and eat the healthy snack.

I look at this flower as a flower of hope.  Yesterday I got some good words of hope from my Doctor. They think they can use a different chemo to kill the tumors on my legs. Yes!

So keep praying keep looking up and plant sunflowers.

Get your brushes wet!

Sunflower Blooms

This Impressionist painting has great depth. The cabs and buildings on the right side all pointing to the light in the distance.

I don't remember the artist but everytime I see it in the Columbus Art Museum I am taken with it like no other painting.  I remember as a young man with my dad we were working in the woods late in the evening, we had been cutting wood and it was beginning to snow just like this.

How do catch a moment in time I talked about it yesterday with Monet's "Wind Blown Trees".

Being out in the weather and the place where you can see the sky and earth come together you get the feeling for these pieces of the true nature of Nature.

Starting to paint and build up to this degree of masterpiece. The use of orange and yellows the contrast of the blues. The darks and grays blend into the wall.

Anyway keep your brushes wet and get out your snow shoes.

Don't Think Snow - Think perspective

Look at the wind in the sky and on the bushes, even the water. His eye caught the color under the bushes. The light and dark.

I have no idea how long he painted this item. Usually he would paint for an hour or so and then come back to it another day at the same time. Ten A.M. to Eleven. That would be my guess.

Look at the purple and the light off white under the trees. The tan sandy beach I don't know which river or branch this is. I know they lived close to the Seine and some other creeks.

Monet could go out set up two or three easels. Then he could move from one painting to the next.

I would love to see more of his paintings. So lets keep our brushes wet!

Capture a Moment with Monet

Paul Gauguin was a money broker, married and had two or three children. The standard story is he left them to paint.

The truth is more complicated than that. His mother in law and his wife said he didn't make enough money. He when to Norway with his wife to try to reconcile but it just didn't work out either.

Manet said he was a great painter, Van Gogh thought they could build an Art colony. Paul just wanted to paint with out any influence from the present world.

He painted hundreds of native girls and fauna in Tahiti. He died broke and alone.

His paintings are amazing. His story is even more sad and interesting. Go to the Cinn. Art Museum and see this picture.

Let get our brushes wet and paint on.

I Didn't Like him for a Long time.

Andy,Clare, Mom and Me, old pops.

Happy birthday son! You have been a joy and a big help to us this year! Hope your day is as great as you!

Happy Birthday Andy

The sky was so bright on this day and the water so blue. The waves pushing against the sand as if trying to get her way. I just wanted to catch the breaker as it rolled to the beach.

I noticed that the lighter the water color paint was the lighter the sky could be. It all depends on how heavy your hand is with your brush. I think watercolor teaches you to be a little bit lighter in painting and brushing.

This was in Destin, Florida 2 years ago I could set out and paint and people watch all day.

Keep your brushes wet and your watercolors ready to go!

This big mountain is a picture I did last year I have shown it here. I wanted to come back to it today to remind you about the way we can mix colors that will blend into another color. (Classic green)

The trees far away, the Island and trees near and the water way. All of these thing make up our foreground.

Color, and in the distance and the mist of the lower part of the mountain make the painting have depth. I like the yellow in the sunset, I should have reflected it in the water.  I hope you enjoy this one.
