When you study drawing and basic art classes you usually start with the body drawings. That gives you the feeling of shape and size. Classic work by the Roman and Greek artist. Their work is a study of the human form as perfection.

They went on to do sculpture and bronze work with just about every animal, person, and drapery like Michelangelo's  "Madonna and Child". The clothes on Mary look real and flowing. Mike was 25 years old and a Master.

So is it talent? Or is it being exposed to the great artist? Or both? I don't know but wow did he do a good job!

If you want to learn to draw pick up a book of great sculpture and draw those bits and pieces.

Well sharpen your chisel and get your brushes wet!

With spring just around the corner I see the Box stores with all of the early flowers and trees set out.  But really are you thinking about it? I don't until we have a few warm days  in a row, Like 10 or more.

Okay on a totally different note, look at the forest or woods. Notice the upper story and the mid-level cover. Now the next thing is the under-story. I also see it in the flowers we paint If it is planted right.

This painting is painted with three levels The upper is the Iris and the next is the blue bells, then the daisy.

Well with only eight days till the first day of spring what is your plan for your flower garden. I know this year even if I crawl on hands and knees I will plant some flowers and most of all Sunflowers!

Dig in and keep your brushes wet and your flowers watered!

Eight days till Spring

Usually I finish one painting and then go to the next. Right now I have three canvases  in the works. A mountain scene, a landscape with and old farm house, and an Italy ridge or mountains and mist.

I find like I said yesterday it is easy for me to fly through a painting but now I want to achieve a look and I need for it to be a dry and non-mixable painting. When my canvas is dry completely I don't get bleed over picking up mixed colors. Also  I can do other effects with those colors already down building on top of the paint that is there.

So much of painting and sculpture and other forms of art is knowing how to build or subtract from the project.

Okay folks let get our canvases out and keep our brushes wet!

3 and more at a Time!

Snowman for Christmas

"Art is my Life!" And with that I walked out of my senior art class on meeting our new and untried Art teacher. Okay I was not a drama queen, but the world I fit into was broken because the Man, Mr. Schlazer had left and we had a rookie.

I  was the heir apparent to the title of Senior Art Student. When you are a kid in school it is important to know where you fit. You know the jocks, hoods, geeks, and the art kids, or the music people. But as I look back I was right and I made peace with the change. Art is my life and I love it.

Art is not JUST my life though, I have super children, grandchildren, and great grand child. My wife and dogs, friends and more! All these things make me who I am, which makes my art.

Keep your brushes wet and let art be part of your life!

I love this picture because of the reflections. I like how the trees wiggle.

When we paint water remember that if a tree on land is leaning to the right your water tree needs to lean the same way. In fact if you hold a mirror under an object you see the reflection. And that is what water does.

The sky is the waters reflection as well. Monet discovered how up was down and vice versa. This can create an interesting canvas. As He did in the waterlily's paintings.

To study a little bit of nature we can learn something. We can go to a park if you live in town, or find a farmer you can walk in the fields. Do something to touch nature.

Paint on children, and keep your brushes wet.

Time to Reflect

Is it a new game show? What is my style? No! It is a look at all the pictures you draw and paint. I look back at some of my early projects, like the cowboy on a horse.

One of the biggest challenges I have always had is I rush through many projects just to finish. I admit it. But beyond that I have a large set of hands. Thus My style is more cartoonish or even drawing near the realest. I wanted to be more Impressionist.

Now years later I feel I am much more Impressionist, yet I still have some cartoon or heavy hand as a draftsman. I used to draw constantly even to the expense of my school work. Over all I kind of like the effect it may produce.

And I can almost copy or paint everything  I see. And That is the key to drawing!

Keep your style out there. And your  brushes wet and your pencils sharp!

What's my style?
