Tone it up or don't be Tone deaf.

Jean Renoir complained that he didn't like to stretch and tone the canvas for his father Auguste  Renoir. Like all children I suppose we didn't like to do what they wanted us to do.

Now we can remember the lesson we learned and do those things that are needed to be done.

This is a canvas I toned with a gray mixture of blue and brown. I can paint a mountain scene or a snow scene with this cool back ground. With a burnt sienna or a golden back ground I can paint a warm painting with blue sky's and lakes.

Learning to mix colors and tone your canvases is a basic art. A great way to experiment with different back grounds.

So keep your brushes wet and your canvases toned.
