Here's a little copy of a painting I saw in Cincinnati. I added the tree on the right side as an eye stopper. Many paintings have this eye stopper like a tree or bush placed just right.
There are many ways to keep the viewers eyes in your paining and not wandering all over. I like the french drape or pulled back curtain. It is usually on the left side and is a huge tree or even a mountain side cut back like a letter C.
This painting is the old man going home after all day out with the sheep. I can see he's weary after the full day of work the dog is bringing up the stray sheep.
Keep your brushes wet and look for eye stoppers.
