Bunch and Branch

Blending and laying in of color is very important to a painting as well as placement. The color complement is also important.  Leonardo said that it is the fading of the object into the back ground. Or something he called Sfmato.

We use it in our drawings and try to include it in the paintings. Not every object needs the total attention of the viewer. The mystery of that object tells your brain it must be something's there, what is it? In this case it is the daisy's. We see one or two so the other whitish things must be more daisy's.

By letting things fade or blend into the background or the other parts of the painting we get a larger volume of painting.

We do it when we paint mountains, trees, or distant landscape or towns. The eye finds it as intended creating distant "stuff". Making more planes in the painting creating more distance.

So lets keep doing Sfmato and keep our brushes wet!
