1892 Toulouse- Lautrec design

Artist Magazine this month is doing a focus on Art of the theater. The Impressionist Degas did drawings of the girls and ladies in the ballet.  Then a few years later Toulouse - Lautrec came to Paris and began to sketch the people in the Moulin Rouge.

Lautrec did somethings different he added the lighting from an insider showing faces and bodies in mid movement. The garish colors and pastels in  his paintings plus the fact he added more black and browns. These colors we had not seen in a while as most Impressionist band black from the pallet.

I thought  how could I touch some of these colors and get the feel for his style.

You can sketch these pictures and add to your daily "I did it" list of drawings.

Enjoy and keep your brushes wet.
