When you play you learn things. I do. For example how line and angles play in a painting. How a wash will grow or define a space.
I did a yellow wash fading into the reds and purples to blue. Just a nice background. Then I started a wash of Payne's gray for the palm tree.
I wanted to mess around with a building and try to capture the feel of a camel. That done I did more palms.
Lines defined the sand even in the far off distance.
To make a wash use the paint and gesso mix you do anyway but add more and more water. You can make it like a watercolor. And just suggest something you want people to see.
Keep your brushes wet and wash up.
