Sometimes it is color!

Sometimes it is Just color rubbed around and blended. I can see different things in this background. Sunsets or sunrises. What other things can I see.

Sky color or watercolor. Mountains  in the distance, far hills or is it a cityscape?

Only your Imagination is the limit. Find the sweet spot in your backgrounds. Mix different colors to blend a different type of under-painting.

Keep your colors blended and your brushes wet.
