The Yellow House - Divided

The excitement that Vincent felt was real. His Friend whom he loved, Paul Gauguin,  was coming to live in Arles. Van Gogh had Painted the sunflower series to brighten the rooms and make his friend welcome.

But this would be a house divided. Gauguin wanted to paint his way not what Van Gogh saw and Vincent insisted that Paul paint what he felt.

President Lincoln said, a house divided against it self cannot stand. The trouble that ensued caused Van Gogh to loose his ear, and finally go into the mental hospital. Believe me it will drive you crazy!

This house was bombed out during World War II. But the war in the 1889 was as bad. Constant fighting, Van Gogh clawing for every theory of art he held dear. Gauguin fought against it. I think he did it just to make Vincent mad.  Did it make Vincent a better painted. Yes! Did it make Gauguin better I don't know he soon left for the Fiji Islands in the Pacific.

Painting wise the picture is complementary blues and yellows it is truly a masterpiece. But the Pain and suffering made the picture better.

Let keep our ears close and our brushes wet! And don't fight.
