TMI - To Much Information

One of the grandchildren said TMI Grandpa. "What?" said I.
"You know To much Information" They said.

I have though about that for a long time now and I realize in painting it can be the same. Rather than let the viewer discover the painting we sometimes tell every thing and leave no mystery or hidden place.  Everything is in the open and told before we can see for our self.

Some old style paintings from the Renaissance were telling a religious story the TMI program may have worked because people could not read or write. But now with folks more educated, and as painters we need not tell we can show.

Allow brush strokes to let flowers and leaves happen. Suggest tree limbs and distant landscapes. Dash of a bit of color and let it represent a person. Think out side the canvas. Draw the viewer into your paintings.

Keep your brushes wet and paint on but not TMI!
